January and Mentoring

Triangle Lodge #548 helping Boy Scouts of America
I am currently taking a little break from a couple projects I have been working on. Different projects involving Freemasonry, Politics and different allied organizations within Freemasonry. I know I havent written too much here lately, that is partially because of the other projects I am working on-- lot's of research, coordinating with other people and so forth. It takes a lot of work to keep up with the times, stay educated and still do my normal job.

I am taking a break to talk about the upcoming month. If you read my article on Midnight Freemasons regarding De Molay, you will know and understand how passionate I am when it comes to our youth. They are the future of our society, so we must take some kind of participation in their growing up. January is the National Month for Mentoring, and what a better time than the beginning of the year to get involved. Please, do not start a New Years Resolution to get involved. We all know that these very rarely continue past the first couple weeks.

Instead, I invite you to make a lifestyle out of mentor-ship. Rather, it is taking up Big Brothers and Sisters, Working with De Molay, Daughters of the Nile, Job's Daughters, White Shrine, Knights of Pythagoras or working with your house of religion. How ever you do it, get with the kids of today to build better adults of the future. It will be an awarding experience that you as well as the kids can learn from and grow.

Emily, gets involved by teaching kids how to play Soccer, she coaches two different age groups during soccer season. She knows I would be out there with her on the baseball diamond helping coach children if I werent deployed.... I may be unable to get involved physically, but I can support the organization of my choosing financially and in spirit.

Bro. Aaron Gardner in his youth days.
You can too, if you have a child of your own get out with them into their interests. If they like to play baseball offer your assistance to the coaching squad. If you are like me, and can not physically be there to help mentor children help support the ones who can. Offer to sponsor a youth league or donate books to your local school's library. If these ideas haven't sparked a wildfire of ideas to help out you can always go to mentoring.org for more ideas.

See the smiles, learn about them, learn about yourself. Find the inner child within you. Life is so rewarding when it comes to guiding children to be better members of society.
