La rivoluzione massonica

A Corrupt group of leaders and a group of youthful aspirations collide head to head in battle fighting for what they believe is right. Fighting for a new way based on ideas that were thought of before they were even a twinkle in the Creator’s eye. Meeting together under the twilight of the night at a local pub to plan, discuss and avoid the scrutiny of the old world. Publishing their own publications to bring light to the world around them about what could, would and should be.

Sounds like something done by men of such stature as Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, William Penn and the revered George Washington. They met in pubs together and plotted for the new world away from the eyes of tyranny. A revolution based on ideas published by individuals before man knew there was such thing as the Americas. This was a time of enlightenment for the world when men stood against tyranny and refused to just go through the motions of day to day life. A group of noble men stood up for what they thought was right. It also happens to be closely related to our fraternity because of what we stand for and who these men were.

But, This article has nothing to do with our countries foundation. What we are talking about in the first paragraph is something going on right now in our fraternity. The division of our lodges based on what used to be done and what we need to do now. We have all heard the old Past Masters’ spiel “When I was in the East," but none of that matters now. Brethren, we are a fraternity divided by what attracted us to the organization in the first place. Many become a Freemason with the ideas of finding the deep and dark secrets of our countries past. Those will become the bored and the non-attending members. Others join because it was what their father did at his age— Family tradition. There is nothing wrong with this. It is a great feeling to have your loved ones follow your footsteps. I know what it felt like to have my cousin ask me about Freemasonry. Today, Josh is sitting in an officer chair in the same lodge that I was raised in; Flushing Lodge #223 in Flushing Michigan. I also dream of having my own children venture through that door hoodwinked.

We all come to the fraternity for many reasons. But we are joined upon that book, by the oath we took under one reason alone. If you cannot remember that reason your conductor will guide you. With that, you learn some great information in every degree. If that is the only knowledge you set forth to gain, fine. However, there are Master Masons across the globe under this celestial tarp that seek more. We hunger for more. Some delve in the ancient Egyptian Mysteries, others dabble in fraternal symbology of religion and there are some who even set forth to make their lodge closer to the traditionalism of the order.

Brethren, we have a revolution on our hands. A new age of enlightenment in which we are coming together and creating the lodge experience we want. If you don't think it is appropriate to attend lodge in Jeans and polo attend a more traditional lodge. You may hear the commonly referred Traditional Observance lodges as T.O lodges. These lodges are setting forth toward the light through quenching that thirst of knowledge, tradition, appearance, and ritual. They are attracting many younger members interest because of what they are aspiring to be.

T.O lodges are pushing the button for every young Mason everywhere to seek that light that is being diminished by too much politics. I know it seems you can never get anything accomplished within lodge without one Past Master having some gripe or complaint. It was like pulling tooth and nail just to have my lodge consider ordering a fine made tie from Fraternal Ties by Bro. JP Gomez. I thought it was a great idea having our lodge develop a logo, a crest and putting it on something to establish our lodge. It could attract members when they see our ties— it would be nice to go lodge wearing a suit and tie for once.  My arguments for the tie stand and I still lost the battle with the Past Masters. Regardless, of who is in the East we will always have a hard time debating the benefits of a new idea. Simply because our Past Masters don’t like it.

It’s not just ties however, it is ideas to get our name out. If it means spending money on advertisement to help a local charity you will have a fight. In our local lodges we are losing members, money and much needed support because the youth is leaving and the old are dying. Young Masons should not need to fight for what they knocked on that door for. Nor will we.

If our youthfulness, inspiration and dedication to the Craft are not welcome amongst the beaten and downtrodden we will move forth. We will meet with brethren that share our zeal, though they may have different ideas of expression and practice, we will compromise. If you want to study the ancient mysteries and our brother here wants to do charity and I want traditional suit and tie, we will come together as 3 Master Masons and search for more like us. We will read literature such as The Working Tools, The Living Stones; and listen to podcasts like Whence Came You, The Winding Stairs; videos of Masons from around the world coming together such as The Masonic Round Table; Blogs like this one, The Midnight Freemasons, Freemasonry and HumblePie; Facebook groups who look into the Esoteric or the symbology of life.

When we gain our knowledge and our fire from the Masons who want to fulfill the hunger and need in our souls, we will rise. It is that fire and zeal that keeps our organization alive and has through out the centuries. We are a group of Master Masons who stand up for what is right, for the light, for the good of the Order.

My fellow young Master’s do not let the oppressed and abused stamp out your light. Keep that zest alive and when an idea is turned down keep coming back with it. Remember, the weary and tired would have no reason to meet without the youth to keep the fire lit. If it is too much for you at times to be struck down over and over, attend another lodge, but return. We shall not be beaten, we will not be buried. Through the support of the media outlets mentioned above, we will fight on. Long live the Masonic Revolution.
